Millennial spending habits are being questioned (again) and the internet isn't here for it

Another day, another headline about millennial spending. Sigh.

This time, a study by Barclays looked into generational spending habits found that millennials spend more than £3,300 each year on coffee, food, going out, and clothes.

SEE ALSO: I'm a millennial and, believe me, coffee is not the reason I'm broke

Per the findings, emailed to Mashable, a survey of 20 to 37-year-olds found that the average bill for these items comes to £3,312.74. In a press release, Barclays said that millennials could save "a whopping £10.5 billion a year by making minor changes to their spending habits."

A breakdown of the spending shows that millennials spend an average of £904.20 per annum on socialising, £738.96 on new clothing, £705.96 on eating out, £522.60 on takeout food, and £441 a on "daily treats (coffees etc)". That means that millennial coffee expenditure on average amounts to about £36.75 a month, which won't exactly break the bank (pun intended) in the grand scheme of things.  Read more...

Why Neil Gaiman talking at you for 5 hours from your screen is totally worth $90

Neil Gaiman is having another moment.

Next month the ultra-prolific author sees season 2 of the turbulent-behind-the-scenes, brilliant-on-the-screen series American Gods, now more closely based on his novel, premiere on Starz. A mere two months later, the screen version of Gaiman's apocalyptic comedy book co-written with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens, is unleashed on an unsuspecting world via Amazon Prime.

And while all this was in the works, the bearded bard of all things mythological casually became a writing professor for the whole plugged-in planet.

Gaiman's course, titled "The Art of Storytelling," is now available on the celebrity learning app MasterClass. I'm far from the only Facebook denizen to see the ad for this class dominate my news feed in recent weeks. Social media knows us nerds too damn well. (It probably also knows most of us have half-finished novels stuck in desk drawers.)  Read more...

Ariana Grande surprises the TNT Boys and aww their faces

Are you ready to see the cutest thing you'll see all day? Well, I'm not entirely certain that anything can properly prepare you for the levels of cuteness you're about to behold.

Ariana Grande surprised boyband TNT Boys while they were performing on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

As the three boys sang "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," Ari watched backstage and eventually joined them on stage to sing along with them. And, my goodness, look at their faces when they realise who's joined them on stage!

Jake Gyllenhaal paused his play to help an audience member because he's literally the best

If for some ridiculous reason you needed further proof that Jake Gyllenhaal is pretty much a perfect human being, then look no further.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show, Gyllenhaal spoke to Fallon about Sea Wall/A Life — the play he's currently starring in at The Public Theater in New York. And from the sounds of it, even being immersed in a lengthy monologue doesn't deter him from helping a stranger.

"The other day a woman was coughing, like really, really loudly," Gyllenhaal says in the clip above. "And I felt so bad for her."

Rather than ignoring it, Gyllenhaal broke from his monologue to ask the woman if she was okay. And even though she said she was, he went one better. Read more...

50 Cent was apparently offered $500K to attend Trump's inauguration

President Donald Trump's 2017 inauguration wasn't exactly the most well-attended event in history.

And now it would appear that Trump was aware that he had attendance issues, even before the ceremony took place.

At least that's what Curtis Jackson, AKA, 50 Cent says. On The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jackson said that Trump's people offered him half a million dollars to attend the inauguration.

"I was like, 'woah'." Jackson said. "Don't bring me to fix the African American vote." Read more...

Vivo’s mid-range V15Pro puts pricey flagships to shame

The flagship, originally, is the ship (the maritime kind) that carries the fleet's commander. In the smartphone world, the term has become synonymous with the best phone a phone company currently offers. Flagship is the most coveted by users and it gets the most attention from the media. Flagship is the phone you want

SEE ALSO: App hoarders, it's time to Marie Kondo your phone

But ever since Apple first put a $1,000 price tag on its flagship phone, things have started to change. Flagships are still the best phones around, but they're hardly the best value. And the discrepancy sometimes goes so far that it's getting hard to recommend a flagship phone when there are cheaper alternatives that are nearly as good.  Read more...

The bromance is real between 'Spider-Man' stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Holland

Turns out there's only love between Spider-Man and Mysterio, guys.

Jake Gyllenhaal chatted to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on Tuesday about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as master of illusion Mysterio in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Fallon noted Gyllenhaal's sweet bromance with Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland.

"He's great, dude. He's awesome. He's the nicest guy in the world. I'm super into him as Spider-Man," Gyllenhaal said, who posted a delightful Valentine's Day Instagram video featuring his co-star with the cheesy hearts Superzoom filter. It's love!

'Captain Marvel' first reactions: A fun, '90s adventure with a brilliant Carol Danvers

You may believe the hype.

The much-anticipated Captain Marvel had its first screenings on Tuesday night, and the first audiences to watch the film have described it as unlike any other MCU film they've seen before, and weirder than you'd expect.

Other critics and viewers thought there was a strong, nostalgic '90s feel to the film, and yep, you bet it's going to be a lot of fun.

#CaptainMarvel has a great ‘90s sci-fi vibe w/ a tone unlike any other Marvel movie, really. It’s retro & trippy, mysterious & dorky. It’s funny in surprising places & badass in all the right places. It remains entertaining because it’s always changing. It’s got the right stuff pic.twitter.com/o7AvqYY63x

Pixar short 'Kitbull' will make you cry with its unlikely dog-kitten friendship

Oh, you were having a pretty cry-free day, huh? Hit play on Pixar's newest short and you'll be a puddle of tears.

Kitbull, directed by Rosana Sullivan and produced by Kathryn Hendrickson, follows the unlikely animal friendship between an abused pitbull and a self-reliant but easily scared stray kitten, set in San Francisco's Mission District.

It's not often animation tackles the devastating subject of animal abuse, but Kitbull does with heartbreaking insight. And it's a 2D animated short, which isn't the usual realm for Pixar.

"To be fully honest, it started from a cat video ... I loved watching cat videos in times of stress," said Sullivan in a companion video. "At first, I just wanted to draw something that made me feel good and was fun, but it evolved into something more personal to me eventually.  Read more...

Privacy activists say online ad industry knowingly violated GDPR

Privacy advocates claim that an organization that represents the online ad industry knew they would be violating privacy laws, but did so anyway, in an updated complaint filed against the group as well as Google.

On Tuesday, the group filed new evidence with data protection authorities in the UK and Ireland against Google and the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), the industry association that creates standards and guidelines for online ad practices.

The new filing includes documents which allegedly show that the IAB knew its ad system would be illegal under the General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, a law that protects personal data and privacy for individuals within the European Union. Read more...

Skiing is apparently more fun when there's a horse involved.

Jennifer Staggemeyer was driving through Harmony, Minnesota when she spotted what she thought was a horse and buggy stuck on the side of the road. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a man on skis being pulled by the seemingly driverless buggy.

Gwyneth Paltrow to say bye to Pepper Potts after 'Avengers: Endgame'

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Tue, 02/19/2019 - 21:53

Gwyneth Paltrow will reportedly exit the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame. The actress told Variety that the April film will be her last hurrah as Stark Industries exec Pepper Potts, whom she debuted in 2008 at the start of the MCU.

“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” she said (Pepper suited up in 2013's Iron Man 3 after nearly dying in battle). “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it...It was such a wonderful experience making the first ‘Iron Man’ and then to watch how important it has become to the fans.”
