Winter Olympic Google Doodles, ranked

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 02/23/2018 - 17:51

The Olympics are a time for some of the world's best athletes to compete on the world's grandest stage. It's a time for the best humans on Earth to shine. But, you know, some times animals want in on the action too.

Cartoon animals, rather. During the duration of the Winter Games, Google has been throwing its own Doodle Snow Games, a lovely series of animations where jovial animals compete in Olympics-style competitions for superfluous awards. There's chipmunks, millipedes, and raccoon dogs. Honestly, what more could you ask for?

'Beast from the East' to plunge UK, rest of Europe into historic deep freeze

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 02/23/2018 - 17:09

A bone-chilling, frigid air mass will soon stretch from Ireland to Siberia, as a record-shattering weather pattern establishes itself across the North Atlantic Ocean. The cold will cause temperatures to plunge well below freezing in London, where snow is likely to fall during the next 1 to 2 weeks.

The U.K. Met Office is calling the cold snap "exceptional," saying it will be the coldest air to affect the country since at least 2013. The cold winds from Siberia, which are pushing the frigid air westward into Central Europe and the UK, are popularly known as "The Beast from the East."

"The cold easterly wind will persist bringing a significant wind chill  which will make it feel several degrees colder than thermometers indicate," the Met Office warned in a press release.  Read more...

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 02/23/2018 - 16:33

Inside the Capitol, the political elite have become immune to the regular killings splashed across their screens. They've rationalized it as the price they have to pay for their way of life. But a handful of teenage survivors of the slaughter are starting to speak out, using their status as heroes to start questioning the whole system on live TV.

The teens are articulate, telegenic, extremely media savvy, and highly dangerous to the president's party.  They're the best chance for profound political change that anyone has seen in years, and they end up fomenting revolution.

Justin Trudeau tried way too hard in India, and it backfired spectacularly

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 02/23/2018 - 16:11

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can't stop being the worst version of himself while touring India.

During an official visit this week, Trudeau has once again dipped back into his charisma well to inspire good headlines, and global affection. Only this time, it looks like he's drowned.

Every day of his trip, Trudeau opted to don grand, ceremonial outfits traditional for India. It can be presumed that he wanted to show respect and "fit in" with the people of the country. In reality, most saw it as trying to hard at best, or as cultural appropriation at worst.
