True friend takes 'send me a pic' to a whole new level

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 01/11/2019 - 21:08

Anyone that’s ever done their shopping online knows that things always look different in real life. So, when Twitter user @Dnschtt's friend asked to see the packages she ordered to his house, he didn't disappoint.

"She was like let me see them, so I sent her a pic of the packages,"  Dnschtt tweeted. Apparently that wasn't enough, so he instead sent her this video.

A friend ordered a backpack and a fanny pack and had them sent to my house. She was like let me see them, so I sent her a pic of the packages but she was like “No, let me SEE them” so I sent her this (excuse my mess of a house): pic.twitter.com/jQ4L31S6ri

If you want to be the Queen of Jeopardy, we suggest you brush up on your knowledge of Queen Bey first.

On Thursday night's episode, a Jeopardy contestant named Jessica proved she was not so well versed on the every move of Beyoncé and Jay-Z. When asked which collective name the duo used when releasing their album Everything Is Love, Jessica provided a hilariously incorrect answer.

Dash buttons ruled illegal in Amazon's second largest market

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 01/11/2019 - 18:10

Amazon's Dash buttons are perhaps the company's most overt effort to make you forget that buying something actually means handing over your hard-earned money. Now, someone is finally calling BS.

A German court has ruled that the Dash buttons violate consumer protection laws, Reuters reports

SEE ALSO: Jeff Bezos and Amazon are nearing a super-villain level of rich

Amazon debuted Dash buttons in 2015. They are small adhesive devices, emblazoned with a product logo and connected to the Amazon app, that let customers place an order for a single item just by pushing a button. For example, a button placed next to your paper towel roll would allow you to buy your favored brand of paper towels with the push of a button as soon as you're out. You can, of course, buy Dash buttons on Amazon. Read more...

Google Chrome to start blocking intrusive ads worldwide

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 01/11/2019 - 17:57

Google Chrome's built-in ad blocker is going global this summer.

Starting on July 9, "Chrome will expand its user protections and stop showing all ads on sites in any country that repeatedly display[s] … disruptive ads," Chrome Senior Director of Product Ben Galbraith wrote in a Wednesday blog post.

Google first launched this feature in February, but only in North America and Europe. The filter removes only the most intrusive, annoying types of ads that violate the Coalition for Better Ads' standards, as outlined in the image below. That includes pop-up ads, full-page prestitial ads with countdown timers that block you from seeing content on the page for a certain amount of time, auto-play videos ads with sound, and large sticky ads that stay on the page even when you scroll, among others. Netflix faces lawsuit over 'Black Mirror' and 'Choose Your Own Adventure'

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 01/11/2019 - 17:38

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is on the receiving end of a lawsuit from the owners of "Choose Your Own Adventure" books.

Chooseco, LLC trademarked "Choose Your Own Adventure" in the 1980s and has sold hundreds of millions of books using the branding ever since. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chooseco reported that Netflix sought to acquire this trademark but was never granted the license.

Per an excerpt of the official complaint, via THR:

Indeed, the phrase "choose your own adventure" has been almost inextricably linked to Bandersnatch, either through Netflix's own efforts or the mark's ubiquity as established by Chooseco. The company has filed for at least $25 million for "infringement, dilution, and unfair competition" and demands that Netflix remove any "choose your own adventure" references relating to Bandersnatch. Chooseco wants to be distanced from the darkness and morbidity of Black Mirror (honestly, so do we). Read more...

Walmart has the Beats Pill+ Bluetooth speaker on sale for $50 cheaper than Apple

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 01/11/2019 - 17:13

If we learned anything from Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” music video, it’s that the Beats Pill makes for a bumpin’ speaker. (We also learned how to twerk with giant teddy bears strapped to our backs, but we’ll save that for another time.)

The Beats Pill+ is an even better model of the Bluetooth speaker, and you can get it on sale for just $129 at Walmart. That’s $30 off the Walmart listing price, and $50.95 less than what Apple has listed.

The Pill+ has defined, pure sound quality and packs a big bunch in a compact design. Its active two-way crossover system creates an optimized sound field for dynamic range and clarity. The speaker uses the same mechanics that can be found in professional recording studios. The Beats Pill+ has soaring highs and a deep bass that can fill a room. Read more...
