These wireless headphones share a cool feature with Apple's AirPods, plus they're on sale

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 10:00

Admit it: Your current headphones no longer spark joy. They don't fit well, their sound quality leaves much to be desired, and if they haven't already broken, they're so shoddy that they probably will soon.

So here you are, physically and emotionally ready for new listening equipment, but without a clue as to where you should begin your search. Frustratingly, most options out there feel like a compromise: Typical over-ear headphones, for example, provide great sound quality but tether you down with cords. Meanwhile, your average wireless earbuds offer the latest in audio technology, but at sky-high prices. Read more...

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 10:00

Marijuana-based CBD has been hogging the wellness industry's spotlight in recent years, with everyone from Goop to The New York Times plugging its supposed range of health benefits.

But much like Ally's fame eclipsed that of Jackson Maine in A Star is Born, another source of CBD — hemp — has the makings of an even hotter health trend. (You could say it's about to go off the deep end.)

SEE ALSO: What is CBD and where can you buy it? Here's everything you need to know.

While neither of these compounds have received nearly enough research, that doesn't seem to stop people from using it — or at the very least, Googling it. Read more...

Save over £1200 on this premium LG 4K smart OLED TV on Amazon

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 09:07

Just because something isn't the latest model to hit the shelves doesn't mean that it isn't still a quality product.

Take the LG 55-inch Premium 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart OLED TV, for example. You can tell just by the amount of letters and numbers in its name that it's packed full of stunning technology. It's the 2017 model, so it's certainly not the newest of LG's TVs, but the result is that the price of this model is dramatically cut.

You can now pick up the LG 55-inch Premium 4K Smart OLED TV for £1068, reduced from £2299.99. That is an enormous reduction on the list price, saving you a whopping £1231.99, or 54%. A drop in price like this is down to the fact that there are newer models of the same TV on the market. But why pay more when this TV still has so much going for it? Read more...

'Hellboy' unleashes apocalyptic trailer with monsters and blood aplenty

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 06:35

Well, looks like some kind of apocalypse is here in the latest look at the forthcoming Hellboy film starring Stranger Things' David Harbour.

Set to a cover of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water," the trailer offers up a pretty hectic look at the Dark Horse Comics-based film, with more than a few monsters for our pal to take care of.

Plus, there's some kind of sexy blood shower, who knows?

Directed by Neil Marshall and starring Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Penelope Mitchell, and Daniel Dae Kim, the film sees our main dude Hellboy attempting to thwart a powerful fifth century sorceress (Jovovich) with plans to y'know, destroy humankind. Classic. Read more...

'Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution' is a CGI remake of the first Pokémon film

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 05:36

You too may have fond memories of Pokémon: The First Movie, and because it is 2019, the beloved film is getting a remake.

Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, as it'll be called when it releases in Japanese cinemas on Jul. 7, is a CGI remake of the film, which dropped its first teaser on Friday. There is no release date for Western audiences just yet, so you'll have to hold tight.

It's of course unrelated to the Ryan Reynolds-voiced Detective Pikachu, which is set for release on May 10. But it's good timing. Read more...

Was John Mulaney's neighbor a cannibal? Pete Davidson and Jimmy Fallon try to guess.

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 05:34

Was John Mulaney's neighbor arrested by the FBI for cannibalism? Did Pete Davidson go to Jamaica with Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels over New Year's?

See if you can guess what's real and made-up, as the two comedians joined Jimmy Fallon for a game of "True Confessions" on The Tonight Show Thursday night.

The game works by each person revealing a random story, to which the others must guess whether it's true or fake. But first, they must interrogate each other, and with these three, of course it's hilarious. Read more...

Twitter looks to let you hide replies to your tweets

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 05:03

Twitter has been hiding replies from what it deems to be suspect or troll accounts for a little while now.

It's a neat feature to help filter out questionable replies (or that reply guy), and now Twitter is looking to expand on it, essentially creating a way to moderate your replies.

SEE ALSO: Dr. Bronner's is the only good brand on Twitter

As posted by serial feature spotter Jane Manchun Wong, you'll soon be able to choose whether to hide replies to your tweets. This feature hides replies not just for yourself, but to other people viewing the conversation too.

"Hide tweet" will be accessible in a menu, and it appears you'll be able to view all the tweets you've hidden too. Read more...

Jimmy Fallon and Weezer cover 'Take on Me' with classroom instruments

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 04:05

Ed Sheeran's done it. So has Shawn Mendes, Metallica, and the Backstreet Boys. Now, Jimmy Fallon's handed the banana shakers to Weezer.

For one of The Tonight Show's most beloved recurring segments, Weezer joined Fallon and The Roots to perform a cover of A-ha's classic "Take on Me" using classroom instruments.

We're talking mini tambourines, wood blocks, kazoos — the works, all with that iconic animated overlay from A-ha's music video. And huge respect for frontman Rivers Cuomo in particular, who hits those impossible high notes.

It's not the only fun performance we've seen from Weezer this week, with the group joining Fallon's barbershop quartet, The Ragtime Gals, for a rendition of their own classic track, "Buddy Holly." Read more...

Tesla's 'Full Self-Driving' feature is back on Autopilot

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 02:30

Tesla made a big announcement Thursday about a Tesla Model 3 electric car that starts at $35,000, but other new options popped up on the Tesla website under the Autopilot section, like the semi-autonomous driving feature.

Full self-driving mode was pulled as an option back in October, but now it's back as a rebranded "Navigate on Autopilot" package with "future features coming later this year." As of today, there are two Autopilot packages. The first is just called Autopilot and gives the car auto-steering and advanced cruise control. The basic version is $3,000 to include upfront.

Then there's the package option called "Full Self-Driving Capability." As Tesla CEO Elon Musk explained in a press call Thursday afternoon, it's "feature complete," but that doesn't mean you can use all those features. It still is the more advanced Navigate on Autopilot, which allows the car to drive mostly on its own (with you still at the wheel and paying attention) on highways only.  Read more...

You can now brew your own dodgy illicit liquor in 'Fallout 76'

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 01:39

Sure, you can ramble around Wild Appalachia scrounging in crates for old dusty beers in Fallout 76, but what if you could brew your own?

Bethesda has announced the arrival of a new brewing and distilling feature for the online multiplayer game, which for the first time ever allows you to craft your own booze.

SEE ALSO: Playing 'Judgment' made me finally jump into 'Yakuza' games

From March 12, as part of Bethesda's new roadmap additions, players will be able to become "the Wasteland’s premiere bartender" with the help of Appalachia’s biggest boozehound of a robot, Biv, who'll teach you to craft illicit Nukashine using the shiny new brewing station. Read more...

TikTok just locked out a ton of users, and people can't take it

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 00:29

When life gives you lemons, make sure to squeeze all that lemon juice straight into your eyes and then rage about it on Twitter.

That seems to be the thinking of scores of TikTok users who, on Feb. 27, found themselves suddenly locked out of the looping video app following the company's FTC-inspired effort to temporarily suspend accounts belonging to people under the age of 13.

What no one appears to have first considered, however, is the fact that some now-exiled users entered fake birthdays when creating their accounts — meaning many of those suspended accounts belong to actual adults.

Or, if not adults, at least not kids.

Amazon kills physical Dash buttons

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Fri, 03/01/2019 - 00:10

Bad news, Amazon Prime addicts: the company is no longer selling its Dash buttons.

As of today, the company will no longer sell the magical plastic buttons that let you summon refills of laundry detergent, paper towels, and Trojan condoms at will. The company will, however, continue to support existing buttons.

If you're bummed about that, it appears that Alexa may be largely to blame for Amazon's decision. In a statement, an Amazon spokesperson said "we've seen customers increasingly using programs like Alexa Shopping, which provides a hands free shopping experience, and Subscribe & Save, which lets customers automatically receive their favorite items every month. Dr. Bronner's is the only good brand on Twitter

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Thu, 02/28/2019 - 22:28

Whether it's Lil Debbie shilling out relationship advice or Sunny D igniting a conversation about depression, contemporary brand Twitter can be a depressing and dark place.

Nothing feels more cynical than when a brand appropriates the standardized millennial voice — ironic, detached, dejected — and uses it to hock their emulsified meat products and drinkable corn syrups. There's no commitment to justice here, there's just marketing. So I'd love to call for a mass ban of corporations from Twitter, with one exception: Dr. Bronner's, one of the country's most popular organic, fair trade soap producers. Read more...

On its website, Tesla is pushing the car as $24,450 after tax and gas savings. Before the new $35,000 model was announced, the cheapest Tesla was $42,000.

Shared scooters barely last a month, report says. But that could change.

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Thu, 02/28/2019 - 22:10

It's tough out there for an e-scooter.

The battery-powered vehicles used by most scooter-sharing companies weren't intended for such heavy use. The first generation of shared scooters were mainly from Xioami, and not made with the type of usage scooter rental companies like Bird put the vehicle through.

Alison Griswold in her Overshare newsletter about the sharing economy crunched the numbers this week from Louisville, Kentucky's scooter-share program. It's based mostly on Bird rides and found between August and December the average lifespan of a scooter there was 28 days.

The 'Thanks, I hate it' meme has found its spiritual home

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Thu, 02/28/2019 - 22:00

Some memes are born to die. Others, like the "Thanks, I hate it" meme, can live eternally.

"Thanks, I hate it" — unlike many memes which fade as quickly as they appear — has real life force and patrons supporting its art. And thankfully there's a whole new subreddit, r/TIHI (Thanks, I hate it), dedicated to keeping this meme alive.

At its core, "Thanks, I hate it" is a meme that celebrates what I like to call "Internet Gothic." Similar to Southern Gothic, Internet Gothic is composed of the grotesque: hellish images, perverse Photoshops, photos suggestive of late capitalism, disturbing GIFs, shitposts, nihilist memes, and all the dumb shit we try and forget we saw on the internet.
