Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch rep their colonial Super Bowl LII teams on 'SNL'

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sun, 02/04/2018 - 13:13

Pete Davidson has come to this assembly of Founding Fathers in 1775, to bring us tidings of a momentous win at Bunker Hill by the American colonies against the British. Welcome news indeed! And joining the celebrations are a group of patriots from New England, where the battle was won!

Leading the horde of heavy Boston accents was none other than Rachel Dratch – whose "Boston Teen" persona "Zazu" appeared in numerous sketches over the course of her tenure on the show. The group of red, white, and blue-clad colonists are boisterous in their praise of "Captain Thomas Brady," who overcame an armada of Brits to rally for the win. Read more...

Natalie Portman takes on Tide Pods in latest 'SNL' rap

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sun, 02/04/2018 - 07:42

She may be a mom now, but Natalie Portman spits fire as hot as ever.

Reimagining the viral Lonely Planet digital short from her last SNL hosting stint in 2006, Portman dropped some sick game – rapping about her not-ballerino husband Benjamin Millepied, and GenZ's favorite pastime, snacking on Tide Pods.

"It sounds like you're almost exactly the same but with current references," Beck Bennett says, filling in the interview chair for 06's Chris Parnell.

"Do you find it difficult juggling kids and a career?" he asks.

"You can juggle these nuts," Portman responds.

Okay, then.

Keeping up with the theme of the evening, former Saturday Night Live mainstay and Lonely Planet cofounder Andy Samberg made a cameo in the video, dressed in the same inexplicable Viking costume as in Natalie Raps Part I. Only this time, he has a present for her. Read more...

Apple is offering free repairs if your iPhone 7 won't connect to a cellular network

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sat, 02/03/2018 - 22:03

Apple is providing iPhone 7 owners with free repairs if they have one of the "small percentage" of devices that do not properly connect with a cellular network.

The affected iPhone 7 devices will show "No Service" in the status bar at times even when cellular coverage is available in the area. The defect comes from a failed component on the main logic board, according to Apple's website

The affected devices were manufactured from Sept. 2016 to Feb. 2018 and were sold in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, and the U.S., according to Apple.

Uma Thurman's story about Quentin Tarantino adds another layer to the #MeToo conversation

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sat, 02/03/2018 - 21:52

After The New York Times published Uma Thurman's #MeToo account on Saturday, one person dominated the coverage — Harvey Weinstein.

But the actress recounted two stories of abuse in the Times piece, one featuring Harvey Weinstein and the other, Quentin Tarantino. Only the Weinstein story featured sexual assault and misconduct, which is why only one would be classified as a traditional #MeToo story.

The allegations against Tarantino are harder to classify. They don't involve sexual assault or harassment or anything that could be neatly categorized as sexual misconduct. But both stories, however distant from one another they may seem, involve an abuse of power that feels both gendered and familiar, adding a whole other layer of complexity to the increasingly intricate #MeToo conversation. What's in a hashtag? A spark for our passions, in love and in war

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sat, 02/03/2018 - 20:37

I found love in a hopeless place. Yeah, some would argue that a Twitter hashtag is something terrible. They can be manipulated by bots and trolls (#ReleaseTheMemo). They can be hijacked by angry users (#TellingItLikeItIs). They can be just all around strange (#KanyesAnalPlaylist).

The hashtag's intended purpose — what Chris Messina pitched to Twitter in 2007 — was to bring people together. They do, my relationship being a case in point. I won't bore you with all of the details, but TL;DR TechCrunch's annual conference uses the hashtag #TCDisrupt and including those 10 characters in a tweet is how I met my friend turned significant other.  Read more...

The internet is having a field day with Paul Ryan's oblivious #GOPTaxScam tweet

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sat, 02/03/2018 - 19:10

Paul Ryan is boasting on Twitter about all the good the G.O.P. tax plan will do. In related news, the House Majority Leader might not understand how money works for most people.

Ryan, tweeting from his personal account, earned himself a good, old-fashioned public shaming on Saturday after he tried to hype the recently passed tax bill. The extra $1.50 in one "pleasantly surprised" Pennsylvania woman's weekly paycheck is enough to cover an annual Costco membership, he wrote.

SEE ALSO: Even Fox News called out Trump's latest lie

The tweet was so astoundingly dumb that Ryan actually deleted it while we were in the process of writing about it. But let his original intent sink in for a minute. This was Ryan's idea of a positive outcome for the new tax plan. Read more...

Uma Thurman opens up about her anger at Harvey Weinstein and Quentin Tarantino

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sat, 02/03/2018 - 17:06

In November, actress Uma Thurman said she was waiting to speak out about sexual harassment and sexual assault until she felt less angry. That day has arrived.

Thurman finally told her story to The New York Times in a devastating account published Saturday. In it, Thurman alleges that Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein attacked her multiple times. Thurman also recounts several strange abuses of power on behalf of her Kill Bill director, Quentin Tarantino.

SEE ALSO: Lena Headey on her work with refugees and what inspired her to share her #MeToo story

The actress says Weinstein's incessant flattery, as well as the high position he held, made her miss what would otherwise be seen as key warning signs. She connects her former agency, Creative Artists Agency, with Weinstein's predatory behavior. And she feels deep guilt for failing to protect all the other women who Weinstein assaulted after her: Read more...

This Is Damage Control at its FINEST.

You've probably heard by now, but during its last episode NBC's This Is Us revealed that a faulty Crock-Pot is what started the fire that potentially kills everyone's favorite TV dad, Jack Pearson.

Since then, despite many attempts (and a newly created Twitter account) to convince everyone its products are safe and reliable, Crock-Pot's brand name has been dragged through the mud and fans are boycotting the slow cookers.

As the PR fire continues to burn bright for the brand, they've enlisted the help of Jack Pearson himself — played by Milo Ventimiglia — to help clear Crock-Pot's name before the Super Bowl. Read more...
