Larry David angered the internet with his ill-conceived Holocaust jokes on 'SNL'

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sun, 11/05/2017 - 14:51

Larry David returned to the Saturday Night Live spotlight this weekend, but things got off to a rocky start.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm comedian made some uncomfortable remarks about Jews and mounting accusations of sexual conduct by Harvey Weinstein, but he drew criticism when his stand-up monologue delved into an even thornier subject: the Holocaust.

"I've always been obsessed with women and I've often wondered, if I had grown up in Poland when Hitler came in power and was sent to a concentration camp—would I still be checking out women in the camp?" he said, near the end of his opening monologue.   Read more...

Larry David broke so hard on 'SNL' he just gave up and laughed openly

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sun, 11/05/2017 - 14:16

Ah, the Saturday Night Live break. When shit just gets so weird on the set of the sketch comedy series that a performer — usually, but not always, the guest host — just starts laughing.

So it was with Larry David this week. The sketch itself is fine: David is a newly married rich dude whose wife — an unrecognizable Cecily Strong — is some kind of influencer in the gay club scene. But by the end of the sketch, David can't keep up with the script's fast-paced lingo... so he loses it.

But here's best part: He never really recovers. For roughly the final minute of the sketch, it's just David laughing through line after line while the other SNL cast members struggle to keep things grounded — and fail. Read more...

Don Jr. teaching Eric Trump about Fun Dip on 'Saturday Night Live' is the best ever

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sun, 11/05/2017 - 13:57

There's a lot to like about this Weekend Update sketch on Saturday Night Live, but really, the best of it comes when Mikey Day and Alex Moffat trot out their always-hilarious impressions of Donald Trump's elder sons, Don Jr. and Eric. In related news, Fun Dip is about to be popular again.

As funny as the Trump Bros are, don't overlook the real fire in this sketch: Michael Che's searing takedown of President Trump. I'll let the quote speak for itself; it's a good one.

"If you want to live-tweet Morning Joe or Cupcake Wars or whatever else you watch, fine. But indictments are important and you work for us — so go put on your baggy suit, fold your hair nice, and answer all of our questions face-to-face like the public servant that you are." Read more...

Aidy Bryant kills it on 'SNL' as Sarah Huckabee Sanders at a White House press conference

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sun, 11/05/2017 - 13:37

Saturday Night Live is lucky to have Aidy Bryant.

With Sean Spicer out on his ass — and Melissa McCarthy's spot-on impersonation now a thing of the past — Bryant has stepped in on SNL as the new faux-White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders. And she's perfect.

Bryant nails Sanders' southern drawl and dry wit in this White House press conference sketch, which suggests that the IRL press secretary draws her strength from an unlikely, but totally fitting, source: Demi Lovato's "Confident."  Read more...

Larry David suits up again as Bernie Sanders for Celebrity Price is Right on 'SNL'

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sun, 11/05/2017 - 13:20

Look. This Saturday Night Live sketch isn't the greatest. But it does have two high points.

The first is guest host Larry David, who revives his pitch-perfect Bernie Sanders impression (and makes lots of 2016 election jokes at Bernie's expense).

The second is Alec Baldwin, who pops up as an even more perfect Tony Bennett. Even better, Baldwin-as-Bennett is really interested in hawking anti-diarrhea medication. When all else fails, toilet humor got your back.

It's also hard not to chuckle when musical guest Miley Cyrus, who appears as a non-celebrity contestant alongside Alex Moffat-as-Chris Hemsworth, gets a visit from her IRL squeeze and Second-Best Chris brother, Liam Hemsworth. Read more...

Donald Trump and Paul Manafort take a very naked shower on 'Saturday Night Live'

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sun, 11/05/2017 - 04:33

Donald Trump took a naked shower with Paul Manafort on Saturday Night Live tonight, and yes, things got weirder from there.

Kicking the episode off in classic SNL fashion, Alec Baldwin reprised his role as Trump – the real-life version of whom is on his first trip to Asia as president, the late night version of whom snuck off to check on his old buddy Manafort (Alex Moffat) after his no good very bad week.

But don’t worry. Melania is happy with the (very) fake lookalike Baldwin’s Trump sent along in his stead. In fact, she’s falling in love!

To make absolutely sure Manafort isn’t wearing a wire, Trump insisted the pair pop in the shower together, as one does. He even got in a shot at the Hollywood scandal du jour. Read more...

Kevin Spacey is now accused of groping Richard Dreyfuss' son

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sun, 11/05/2017 - 01:13

Harry Dreyfuss, the son of Academy Award-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss, has come forward with new allegations of sexual misconduct against Kevin Spacey. He claims that Spacey groped him in 2008, at age 18, while his father, unaware, was in the room with them.

"I ... see how important it is to add my voice to the people who are demanding a better world. A world in which powerful men are no longer allowed to feel safe to do this, or far worse," the younger Dreyfuss wrote in a guest post for Buzzfeed.

"I don't know how long we sat there like that. It could have been as little as 20 seconds, or it could have been five minutes. It’s the hardest part of the story for me to recall. What I do remember is that, other than being a shy kid who obviously admired Kevin Spacey a lot, I never once gave him a signal that I would want to be with him in that way." Read more...

Milo Yiannopoulos landed an unpaid writing gig, then lost it and got his editor got fired

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sat, 11/04/2017 - 22:42

Bite at the universe, and occasionally, the universe will, in fact, bite back.

So goes the most recent development in the saga of noted troll and ex-Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos's rough week. On Thursday he lost his biggest benefactor, conservative billionaire Robert Mercer. And now, not only is he out of a job, but — get this — his presence with his latest employer was so toxic that the guy who hired him is now apparently out on his ass as well.

SEE ALSO: The dudes exposed by alt-right troll Milo Yiannopoulos' gross emails

A brief recap: Back in February, a video from a 2016 podcast surfaced in which Milo defended the idea of relationships between grown men and young boys. "You’re misunderstanding what pedophilia means,” he said on the podcast. "Pedophilia is not a sexual attraction to somebody 13 years old who is sexually mature. Pedophilia is attraction to children who have not reached puberty." Read more...

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard were forced to improvise when their kids, uh, walked in on them

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sat, 11/04/2017 - 20:55

You know what? Life is weird. Things happen. And if you're a parent, one of those things might be your kid accidentally walking in on you having sex.

This even happens to famous people! For example, it happened to Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, which Bell graciously explained on Friday's The Talk.

Seems like they handled it well, though — in fact, they passed it off as a nap and bought themselves more time.

Very resourceful.

A producer reportedly wanted 'Crazy Rich Asians' to star a white woman

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sat, 11/04/2017 - 19:56

Today in bad but unsurprising revelations: Crazy Rich Asians author Kevin Kwan was reportedly pressured by a film producer to make the book's Chinese-American protagonist, Rachel Chu, a white woman instead.

Kwan detailed the experience, which happened before the book was even published, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

SEE ALSO: Author tweets about whitewashed book cover, and sparks discussion on representation

“They wanted to change the heroine into a white girl," he explained. "I was like, ‘Well, you’ve missed the point completely.’ I said, ‘No, thank you.'”

Hollywood whitewashing, of course, is egregious and nothing new. (Remember Scarlett Johansson in Ghost in the Shell? Emma Stone in Aloha?) In this particular case, making Rachel a white woman would effectively ruin the plot of the book, which in large part focuses on a Chinese-American woman's experience of spending time in Asia. Harrison Ford: 'We’ve got people in charge of important sh*t who don’t believe in science'

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Sat, 11/04/2017 - 19:34

Harrison Ford may be Hollywood's most entertaining grumpy, old man. His penchant for blunt real talk, especially on topics he cares about, is downright refreshing.

Such was the case on Thursday night when Ford received an award from the environmental non-profit group, Conservation International. The actor used his acceptance speech that night to dish out some pointed criticism of Donald Trump and his misfit team of climate change skeptics.

SEE ALSO: Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling can't keep it together in their funniest interview yet

"We face an unprecedented moment in this country. Today’s greatest threat is not climate change, not pollution, not flood or fire," Ford said (via The Hollywood Reporter). "It’s that we’ve got people in charge of important shit who don’t believe in science."   Read more...
