This lonely alien monster is ready to Netflix and chill

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 15:34

Never change, video game fans.

The most magical post on the StarCraft subreddit this week comes from user PraetorMojo, who thought it would be funny to create a Tinder profile for a Protoss Zealot.

SEE ALSO: How 'StarCraft II' is powering a clever HD remake of 'Diablo II'

Spoiler alert: it's very funny.

"Just your average Protoss warrior," the profile reads. "I'm mixed but mostly from the Akaelie tribe with a bit of Furinax on my mom's side. Got nothing against Terrans, if anything, I love these dating 'apps.'"

The 19-year-old Protoss, whose name is Thuras, is a Templar with the Fleet of the Executor. He lives in the Citadel of Adun, and hopes to find a mate with whom he can "fight with valor together, honor Adun, or just enjoy some long walks on the beach." Read more...

Shailene Woodley hints that she may have a future as a politician

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 15:26

Shailene Woodley recently opened up about feminism and her recent Emmy nomination to New York Times, and, naturally, politics came up.

The 25 year-old Big Little Lies star still has a few years before she's old enough to make an official run for Congress, but in the interview Woodley said she has already begun to brainstorm the idea of running for public office.

I’m not going to rule it out," Woodley said, When asked if she would consider public office, she added, "Who knows? Life is big, and I’m young." Read more...

George R.R. Martin is so busy that he stopped watching 'Game of Thrones'

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 15:24

At a certain point every summer it feels like everyone in the world is watching Game of Thrones, but there is one notable exception. Original author of A Song of Ice and Fire George R.R. Martin was heavily involved in the early seasons of HBO adapting his book series, but he hasn't written an episode since Season 4 — and he's stopped watching the show.

Martin told Metro that he no longer has time to keep up with the show because of travel, speaking engagements and, you know, writing the next book.

“The book series and TV adaptation go their separate ways," Martin said. “On the screen characters are killed right and left. About twenty of them have died already, which are quite alive to me and will appear in a new book.” Read more...

Tomato-stabbing robot is the stuff of nightmares

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 15:11

Elon Musk and others warned us about killer robots, but, if this video is to be trusted, the situation is more serious than it seems.

Researchers from cybersecurity consultancy IOActive managed to hack into home assistance robot Alpha 2, produced in China by UBTech, and turn it into a tomato-stabbing Chucky.

They simply updated the firmware of the device by accessing a USB port on the back of his head, thus controlling its functions. What's worse, researchers found out the robot's Android OS does not use code-signing to verify the signature when it downloads an update.

That allows for the so-called "man-in-the-middle" attacks used by hackers to install malware in the device.  Read more...

No one can compete with the sexiness of this turkey sandwich

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 15:08

It's not normally good to compare people to pieces of meat, but this is one exception to that rule.

There's a photo going around of an unusually sensual turkey sandwich, and we have to admit we've never seen cold cuts look quite this bodacious.

This sandwich looks like it does it's squats. Definitely a friendly reminder not to skip leg day.

This swole sandwich has the people of Twitter feeling a little inadequate in comparison.

You can now get sushi burritos at Starbucks, if you dare

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 15:01

Starbucks is notorious for jumping on the food trend bandwagon, and it's definitely not stopping at  Unicorn Frappuccinos or avocado toast.

The chain, originally famous for coffee (if you can even remember those days), has introduced a new uber-trendy item to their menu, and we don't quite know how to feel about it.

Starbuck's new Sushi Burrito

Meet the Starbucks Sushi Burrito. They're calling it the Chicken Maki Roll, and it's hitting two select stores in Chicago as part of their new Mercato menu, which focuses on fresh and hearty lunch options.

The roll is, according to Starbucks, "a classic California chicken burrito with a twist." It's stuffed with "slow cooked, shredded chicken, fire roasted tomatillo salsa, lime crema, fresh cucumber and pickled cabbage with onions, avocado and crispy onion." Then it's wrapped in sushi rice and nori. Read more...

'Game of Thrones' has wanted to do a zombie bear for years

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 14:56

Filming a fight between ice and fire is no small feat, and Game of Thrones didn't cut any corners for Season 7 episode 6 "Beyond the Wall." A behind-the-scenes video from the show shares how the actors, set designers, and visual effects artists teamed up to create a spectacular frozen battle unlike anything we've seen before — including that bear.

"What we had to go through to get the zombie polar bear was writing the zombie polar bear into every season of the show for about four seasons," explains show runner Dan Weiss. "Only to have Bernie and the visual effects guys tell us in the nicest possible way 'Fuck you, we cannot afford a zombie polar bear.'" Read more...

Girl hilariously turns the tables when her roommate tries to prank her

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 14:39

Roommates can be a real pain, but it helps if you have the same sense of humor.

Twitter user Alec Ploof left an unusual surprise for his roommate to come home to. He'd laid out an impeccable outfit choice (compete with a bear mask, naturally) and a note reading, "I think you would like nice in this ;)".

To Alec's great surprise, his roommate actually gave the ensemble a shot and served up some looks.

Melania Trump thanks Chelsea Clinton for defending Barron

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 14:34

Melania Trump is all about supporting childhood individuality, and she'd kindly like you to let her 11-year-old son live his life.

Hours after former first daughter Chelsea Clinton came to the defense of President Trump's youngest son Barron on Tuesday — who was criticized by a Daily Caller article for wearing casual clothing — the first lady thanked her for speaking out against childhood bullying.

Clinton had originally tweeted a link to the article, asking the media and all those criticizing Barron Trump to let him have the "private childhood he deserves." There is literally no way 'Game of Thrones' will kill any of these characters in the finale

Mashable - Social Media Marketing tips - Wed, 08/23/2017 - 14:24

In the Game of Thrones, you win or you die, but Season 7 has felt oddly free of both winning and dying. There are generally less characters to kill off because so many have already died, and it used to be we couldn't survive a season without losing more than a few top-billed faves.

That said, everyone's at risk in the upcoming Season 7 finale...well, almost everyone. Some of them are too important to die just yet, and we think they're the only ones who are safe until next summer's winter.

SEE ALSO: 'Game of Thrones' is not good anymore because there aren't any stakes

Below, our best guesses for who makes it through the Season 7 finale still breathing. (Of course, by writing this list we very well might be condemning them!) Read more...
